Inaugural Dallas/Fort Worth Cohort 2016
Kendall Pidgeon is a Dallas native and proud member of the inaugural Urban Teachers cohort in Dallas/Fort Worth. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA and graduated in 2015 with a BS in Chemistry.
Kendall currently works with Big Thought, a creative learning non-profit organization that provides educational support with arts-related activities. He works at the Village Oaks Community Center, one of their many after school programs, as a lead site guide, providing administrative support as well as acting as a mentor and role model for the students that attend. He says:
"I found out about Urban Teachers and their mission to train and provide highly-skilled teachers for low-income communities working with Big Thought. After learning about how Urban Teachers planned to accomplish its mission in Dallas, I knew I couldn't pass up this opportunity. Working at Village Oaks has sparked in me a passion to provide a quality education to underserved students, and Urban Teachers could not have come at a better time.
Dallas is the perfect area for an Urban Teachers stronghold. With so many communities in need of quality teachers, the possibilities are endless. Dallas is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated cities in this country because of how much Dallas has to offer for everyone. If you were to join the 2016 Dallas Cohort, you will be on a path to having a huge impact on lives in a city that can greatly benefit from you, while also providing benefits of its own to your life. You will not be disappointed and, in return, change so many lives, including your own."
