Our Alliance

 

City Teaching Alliance was named an AmeriCorps Professional Corps program in May 2019.

The Professional Corps is for individuals serving in full-time, difficult-to-staff professions like teaching and healthcare. As an AmeriCorps program, City Teaching Alliance is connected to a powerful national service network with expertise and resources to share. City Teaching Alliance teachers are invited to become AmeriCorps members as recognition that teaching is a form of service to students, families, and the community.

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. AmeriCorps brings people together to tackle the country’s most pressing challenges, through national service and volunteering. AmeriCorps programs address critical community needs such as increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, and preparing for disasters. More than 270,000 Americans of all ages and backgrounds give their time and talent to organizations across the country each year as they serve as AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps’ mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. AmeriCorps members make a difference and get things done. 

Eligibility

  • Be a US citizen, national, or legal permanent resident
  • Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check (completed during spring enrollment)
  • Have served less than four terms of service with AmeriCorps
Benefits
  • Education Awards

    After successfully completing your AmeriCorps term of service, you are eligible to receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award (currently $6,895). You can use the award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs.

  • Loan Forbearance

    As an AmeriCorps member, you may be eligible for forbearance, or the temporary postponement of your obligation to make payments on your qualified student loans, during your term of service. 

  • Interest Accrual Repayment

    You may be eligible to have the National Service Trust pay all or a portion of the interest that accumulated on your qualified student loan(s) during your service term.

  • Alumni Network

    AmeriCorps has a distinguished network of more than 1.25 million people who have access to resources that support their lifetime of service.
